Joel On Software
Joel on Software is the weblog of Joel Spolsky, former program manager of Microsoft Excel and an enthusiastic bike rider, among other things. This site is opinionated (”this site is not known for pulling punches”) and quite caustic to technologies he does not like (including several from his former employer), but the prose is excellent — clear and reasoned — and makes compelling reading even if you don’t fully agree with him. And there’s an excellent book on UI design on the site too, as a bonus. Required visiting for all those interested in, as the page says, “managing software.”

Blogger Tour
Blogger is a great service — but with one fatal flaw… too few people know about it. That’s a shame, because it could easily get popular with lots and lots of budding web authors. And the chief impediment to more people using it is the “I don’t understand how it works” mentality, thanks to some fairly abtruse documentation. To this end, I have put up a sort of Cretins’ Guide to the Blogger in two parts. The first part, The Blogger Tour, gives an overview of how simple life can be with Blogger. The second talk about creating your first weblog.

Hello, World!
Right, testing’s over and the blog’s appearance has stabilized, at least to some extent. So this is the first serious post. If you’re viewing this with a 3.x browser or (worse) Communicator 4.x, this site will look like crapola to you. Reason: extensive stylesheets. This helps me avoid huge tables.
So rush out and get yourself a good browser…. Internet Explorer or (in case you think I’m biased towards the Beast From Redmond) Mozilla — the most recent build is M16. Try it out… it rocks.
